Hey, we are working on starting group rides at the Fannin Rec. center. They have over a mile of paved walking trails that have been approved for bikes also. This is great for beginners or anyone looking for some smooth place to ride. We are also checking on having a group ride in down town Blue Ridge starting around 5:30 or 6:00 in the evening. Working on getting it cleared with the officials in Blue Ridge. These will be posted in the paper and announced on the radio 103.9 when it begins.

It is what we locals consider an intermediate ride. From the trailhead on FS241 the trail is about 4 mile climb to the overlook. This is staying on the main trail and not turning right on the Bear Creek Loops. It is a moderate climb, you go thru two Forest Service gates then turn right on the gravel road and climb another 150 yards and you are at the overlook, great photo opp. Then bomb back down.
We have a free map at the Cartecay River Bicycle Shop in downtown Ellijay.

I spoke to both Mike and Terry yesterday.

Last year the various rides rode sections of Pinhoti 1,2 & 3, Bear Creek, Milma and Tibbs.

Earlier in the week Mike roughly outlined the courses from last year, but expressed concern about the longer rides with regard to the recent heat wave. Yesterday Terry said the same thing.

This morning it's more comfortable than it's been in at least a week (comfortable being a relative term). The temperature and humidity are expected to moderate between now and Sat. morning. I'll try to get an update from Terry tomorrow (Fri.) afternoon and post it here.
